Traditions of the native land - Kherson "fern"

One of the oldest holidays that has survived to the present day is Ivan Kupala. It is special because most of the ancient rites of this day are associated with water. Therefore, the celebration is held near the ponds, lighting a large fire after sunset. In Ukraine, people burned old and broken tools on Ivan Kupala, which is believed to protect against evil spirits and troubles.

The Slavs had a legend, according to which only once a year, on the night of Ivan Kupala, a fern blooms. A mythical flower that allegedly gives unusual opportunities to those who have disrupted it. Where do Kherson residents look for the cherished flower? Usually our region organizes many festivals and mass festivities for this holiday. Someone goes closer to rivers, ponds, estuaries. Now you can often find ferns in our Oleshkiv forests. Traditionally, girls and boys, in large companies, walk in the woods and look for a mysterious flower, and at dawn they return home together.

Although festive folk beliefs gradually lost their identity, and divination and rituals turned more into folk festivals, the holiday of Ivan Kupala is still celebrated in many Ukrainian cities and villages.

The ECO LAND team congratulates you on the holiday and wishes you good health and good rest. We want the power of the healing water to bring peace and purification. Let the festive mood accompany you, and the bathing fire will warm your soul and body.
